When I first showed Tulku Rinpoche my work, he asked how did I paint these Western Thangkas? It was the second time that a reknown Buddhist asked me that.
I explained how I work in order to find my paintings. I use my body as a conduit in order to communicate with the earth. I imagine roots emerging from my feet into the earth and I open the crown of my head to let in sky energy. Then I pour the energy out of my hand onto the canvas. Rinpoche nodded and said, oh, same as we do.
